Come & Explore!

Say Hello to a very special part of Yorkshire - Peckittshire

Peckittshire – is a beautiful location between Ampleforth and Wass and only accessible to guests staying at Carr House Farm.

Walk in the woods, go searching for mushrooms. Why not take one of our dogs with you for company? See the amazing views round every corner and all that surrounds us –┬áCastle Howard┬á-one of the Britain’s finest historic houses and gardens. There are many abbeys and historical sites around. There really is something for everybody, whether you like shopping, fine-dining or simply exploring the countryside. Or even take a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

We’re situated approx.┬á1 mile from the picturesque village of Ampleforth. With two traditional village pubs, a shop, Kirks Coffee House and of course home to┬áthe famous Ampleforth Abbey and College.

Fine Dining

Whether you are looking for fine dining, traditional pub food, or scrumptious afternoon teas, we’ve got you covered. Only 5min away is┬áthe Michelin starred restaurant The Black Swan at Oldstead. 7 miles away is┬áthe famous Star at Harome. The Hare at Scawton is another favourite. And on your doorstep are the traditional village pubs of┬áThe White Swan in Ampleforth┬áand The Staplyton Arms in Wass.

The Finest View in England

James Herriot once describe the view from the top of Sutton Bank (pictured) as “the finest view in England”. Located┬ájust a 10 min drive from Carr House Farm. The viewing platform is a short stroll from the visitors centre and is on the Cleveland Way. Or why not go south┬áalong the dramatic escarpment to the famous Kilburn White Horse.

Local & Talented

We are so lucky to have such talented artists across North Yorkshire . These are some  of my favourites. You are able to visit their workshops and buy their creations. Handblown glass from Gillies Jones in Rosedale , handmade walking sticks from The Stick Man in Helmsley and of course the famous Mouseman of Kilburn who is only 4 miles from here.

Tim Bulmer Map

Some time ago the The North York Moors Tourism Network commissioned artist Tim Bulmer to produce a beautifully eccentric illustrated map of the North York Moors.
