Green Friendly
Carr House has been stood in this beautiful countryside in teh heart of North Yorkshrie for nearly 500 years. Long before electricity was thought of. Global warning would not have been an issue then. But now it is the 21st century. We are trying to do our bit towards being green without going over the top.
It is possible to use publice transport to get here. Guests can use our public transport system and the Moors bus.We even have our own homemade bus shelter at the bottom of our drive. We have orchards and gardens. We encourage bees and butterflies. The majority of our light bulbs are low energy.Radiators have been fitted with thermostatic controls. We have some underfloor heating .Windows are replaced with double glazing and filled with gas.We use paints from the Little Greene Co. We have log burning stoves and an open fire. Logs come directly from our land. Fallen trees are used and wood from tree management. We plant young trees ,saplings and hedge every year. This year we are also planting another small wood.We try to buy all our food locally if it is not homemade or home grown and support local traders.
TOP TIP - How many people when hand delivering an envelope write on the front and stick it down ? There is simply no need. That envelope can be used again. If you are delivering two and are worried you may give someone the wrong one all you need to do is write their name in small letters where the stamp would have gone . So the next person who uses the envelope stick a stamp on. No one will be any the wiser and in this way the envelope has a longer life.
We also support the wonderful work that is done in SONGBIRD SURVIVAL - www.songbird-survival.org.uk. My father introduced me song birds as a child . There was not a birds song that he couldn't identify and he could whistle every one. He has been very worried for many years at the decrease in the song birds having campaigned to many a public figure and MP to take up the cause. Finally his concern have been recognised and the Songbird Survival has been formed. For more details -email dawn-chorus@songbird-survival.org.uk before its too late.
