Bird Watching

The North Yorkshire Moors National Park is an ideal place to visit if you enjoy bird watching.  It is a wide rural area with many different species of birds. Including Marlin, Red Grouse, Ring Ouzel, Honey Buzzards in some of the wooded areas, Dippers around various streams. Kingfishers to see like turquoise darts. plus a wide variety of other species in the lower regions. Hear the call of the corn crakes. My favourite is to watch the white barn owl. At dusk watch this bird skim graciously just above the hedgerows looking for his supper. We have some of the finest grouse moors in the world on our doorstep.

Carr House Farm is ideally situated to explore some of North Yorkshires richest wildlife areas. SSSI areas (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) such as Lake Gormire which is practically on our doorstep.

Bird Watching North Yorkshire

At Carr House Farm

The Holbeck runs through our land. This attracts a lot of birds as well as the white clawed crayfish. Our garden, and surroundings, is home to numerous species of birds. The little wrens gathering moss to make their nests. Swallows dipping into the pond to scoop up mud to build the homes. Even the rare tree creepers feeling it safe enough here to raise their young. Gold Crests that carry on their lives undisturbed along with the Chaffinch and Robin. Hear the woodpeckers tapping away in the trees behind the house. Watch them come to the bird table.

The cuckoo comes in May as if to welcome summer. A pair of partridge run up and down the road chattering noisily. Every year returning to hatch off another clutch of bumblebee sized babies. Greedy blackbirds and the thrushes all join in full volume to sing the morning chorus. Watch the blackbird bathing in the stream before preening himself then flying off to find his mate. The gentle coo of the doves and the haunting cry of the owls….perhaps the rare white owl which we are lucky to sometimes see. The cock pheasant with his harem of wives come to inspect, view and look around too.
